Recently completing a major refurbishment, the Lloydd family are developing the property into a true resort, that will provide ample reasons to stay multiple nights and provide a wide range of activities for Guests in the beautiful Hokianga.

The resort plans to target Business Events/MICE, Executive Business Retreats, Company Meeting and Teambuilding, as well as our traditional Individual Leisure, Tour Group, Wedding and Family events markets.

Completed Projects – Ready for You to Experience

1. Hotel Website

A brand-new hotel website is being upgraded to showcase all updated facilities, services and offerings, making it easier for you to browse, book and enquire anytime.

2. Accommodation

Full hotel buyouts for all 43 Guest rooms and Event space are available on select dates, including Holiday weekends. The hotel will be able to accommodate 96 adults, with some rooms also able to additionally include one rollaway bed for children (5-12 years old)

•	Six (6) Courtyard Rooms were fully refurbished in February/March 2025
•	Three (3) Beachfront Studios were refurbished in a similar style to the Superior Rooms and were rebranded as Superior Beachfront Ocean View from 1(st) October 2025
•	Five (5) Two-bedroom Beachfront Ocean View Rooms were completed with a full rebuild and refurbishment in December 2025. Featuring an improved room layout, extended beachfront patio and new furniture and soft furnishings. A Master Bedroom with a full ensuite bathroom and a second bedroom with a second full bathroom across corridor
•	All twelve (12) Superior Beachfront Ocean View Rooms are fully rebuilt and refurbished including beautiful bathrooms with walk-in showers, new furniture and soft furnishings (baths have been removed).
•	Fireplaces in the Luxury Villas were upgraded for use during winter months (May-Sep only)
•	Sky TV has been installed in all 43 Guest Rooms

3. Dining

Hangi Pit

•	A new Hangi facility with double cooking pits installed on the beachfront lawn
•	Catering for groups of up to 400 guests for a traditional dinner or lunch
•	Kapa Haka group from our local schools available for formal welcome ceremony
•	Smaller groups up to 50 can be catered for and the Resort plan to provide a Hangi Night. For detailed information, please contact events@thesandshotel.co.nz.

Kitchen

The Main Hotel Kitchen has been fully rebuilt & upgraded with brand new equipment, and refrigeration.

4. Function Rooms

•	Two function rooms have been renamed as Niniwa and Arai te Uru reflective of the North and South Heads of the Hokianga Harbour entrance. New carpets have been installed in both rooms
•	An upgraded Beachfront Lawn will also be available for outdoor events including Wedding Ceremonies, Cocktail receptions and seated Dinners (during summer, subject to weather)
•	Catered meals up to 150, Meetings from 10 – 200

5. Other Completed Projects

•	Carparking Carpark areas have been significantly improved with the installation of three large concrete pads over previous gravel areas. A great improvement for guests walking around the resort. Two Tesla charging stations are available for guests.

•	Guest Laundry A 24/7 complimentary guest laundry was installed, with complimentary liquid detergent available.

•	Landscaping Improvements have been made to multiple areas including beachfront lawn areas, Superior Ground Floor extended patio and plantings, Villa extended gardens.

Coming in 2026 – Ongoing Enhancements

Our upgrade continues:

Soft refurbishment will begin on the Luxury Villas and more, with full completion targeted for the end of 2026.

Facilities including a gym (opening March 2026) and sauna (around available May 2026) are also in development.
